Opera Software has today announced that InOutTV, Spain's leading Over-the-Top operator, will include the Opera browser in its television platform. This choice will enable millions of users to use Opera on their televisions, making the most of advanced web technologies to gain access to an endless amount of online content.
Opera is the ideal means for providing users with content and applications on their televisions. The browser uses open and industry standards, such as HTML5, W3C widgets, OIPF and HbbTV, facilitating access to any of the live or on-demand content available on connected devices, whether set-top boxes or televisions. The technology and the agreements in place with key television industry partners mean that the Opera Devices Software Developer Kit can be easily implemented in any platform and easily integrated with streaming media players, conditional access systems and personal video recorder (PVR) applications.
"Opera gives us the assurance of compatibility with the latest industry standards, such as HTML5 or HbbTV. In this race, in which only three or four companies worldwide have the capacity to remain competitive, Opera is one of them," stated Eudald Domènech, CEO of InOutTV.
The new combined product integrates the latest version of the Opera browser with InOutTV's framework and advanced DTT middleware. The result is a HbbTV-ready solution that provides users with flexibility and a tool that contributes to enriching their experience thanks to its compatibility with next generation websites and services. Its modular approach enables manufacturers to develop the HbbTV software in almost any possible scenario, regardless of the DVB stack and processor.
"Choosing Opera has enabled us to integrate a full web experience in our devices in record time, simply by using well documented APIs and optimizing runtime parameters," declared David Lecumberri, Chief Technology Officer of InOutTV. "The flexibility of the plug-ins, JavaScript extensions and widget support have enabled us to focus on creating the optimum online experience, while leaving compatibility with the latest web standards and technologies to the real experts."
In Europe, other leading television companies, such as ARD, ARTE, RTL and ZDF have also implemented this technology.
